Sushant Singh Rajput is a fine actor but lacks the casual charm required to make the self-important Shiv lovable. Jim Sarbh’s dialogue delivery is painfully awkward; he doesn’t have the gravitas required for spouting those evil-genius kind of lines in Hindi. Kriti Sanon surprises. She looks good and seems to have honed her acting skills.

Raabta Movie Review: Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon’s film promised a refreshing take on a relationship based on cockiness instead of conventional sap, Dinesh Vijan’s Raabta is let down. By the time Deepika Padukone brings her almighty legs to the screen in an attempt to resurrect the film with a jig, all is already lost. Do not watch Raabta, unless you already suffered through it in a past life.

One Word Review… Raabta: Terrible Bad writing. Bad direction. Bad acting.

Raabta is a film I file under Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hain category

Sushant Singh Rajput has moments he and makes the most of it, but suavity is not one of his strengths. Kriti Sanon is a surprise, having made clear strides since we saw her last. And one of our best actors, Rajkummar Rao, is hidden under layers of latex.

Watch Raabta for Sushant and Jim. This a story of love through ages and lives, but Vijan is no Alfred Noyes. And Raabta is no Highwayman.

Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon’s chemistry is quite good for a first time pairing. The music works well for this film. Raabta is a confused film that never establishes a firm balance between its crossover love stories. Give this one a miss! A 2/5 it is.

The second half is dominated by a fierce, brutish warrior who falls in love with a brave princess. The medieval arc sticks out like a sore thumb. It’s almost like seeing Game Of Thrones being inserted into the iconic, tender romance Before Sunrise. It’s the contemporary parts of the film that are relatively enjoyable. Watch this if you are in the mood for a cute romance that is at fantasy flight risk.

To be fair, most of us, who have marvelled at the likes of reincarnation films such as Karz, Om Shanti Om, Madhumati, Mahal, Neel Kamal, Kudrat and Karan-Arjun, have laughed off Mirziya and Love Story 2050. Raabta comes somewhere in the middle. It tries to toe the line by not shrugging off reincarnation totally. Raabta has all the right ingredients of a ‘much seen’ Bollywood film – the abs, the legs, the looks, the songs, the locations, a solo dance number ( I refuse to call it an ‘item number’) with Deepika Padukone and the reincarnation story. It is a Sushant Singh film all the way and all those who like him will find it endearing and fun. For the rest, it is a chance you might want to take.

Sushant and Kriti’s chemistry is obvious to top your watch Raabta for it’s different take on romance. Not every film touches upon reincarnation so you gotta watch it.Considering Raabta is clashing with Shruti Haasan-Rajkummar Rao’s Behen Hogi Teri and Tom Cruise’s The Mummy, box office is ought to get divided. So what is going to be Raabta’s fate at the box office? Will it be able to beat The Mummy and Behen Hogi Teri or will it bear the brunt of not having a solo release? We got in touch with Bollywood trade analyst Akshaye Rathi and here’s what he had to say: “Sushant Singh Rajput is coming back after a huge film like MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, where he not only raked in the moolah but also won a lot of hearts.
